GUJRANWALA: Two accused, who were wanted by the police in murders of seven policemen and three children, were killed in an alleged encounter in Gujranwala on Tuesday.
While a constable also lost his life during the gunbattle between police and the accused, said police.
The corpses of the accused were paraded through city bazaars, which was witnessed by hundreds of people, who also showered rose petals on the police.
Later, addressing a news conference, Gujranwala SSP Tariq Malik said that the accused Asif alias Waddo and Hashim alias Kala Gujjar were wanted by the police in more than 25 cases of robberies, murders, kidnaps for ransom and other crimes. He had become a symbol of terror across province, said Malik.
Acting on a tip-off, SP CII Afzal Butt raided a house in Khanewal, where both accused were hiding. However, they opened fire at the police, which retaliated. As a result, Constable Yasin Butt embraced martyrdom on the spot, while both wanted criminals were also killed.
The dead bodies of the accused were brought to Gujranwala, where people showered rose petals on the police and chanted slogans in their favors.
